Bayern Munich: Why did players wear cockatoo T-shirts during Bundesliga title celebrations?

Bayern Munich’s players celebrated their latest Bundesliga title win on Sunday with T-shirts featuring cockatoos wearing club shirts.

Their 4-2 victory over Stuttgart on Sunday sealed a 35th German top-flight title and a second in as many seasons for head coach Vincent Kompany.

While Bayern secured their own title this season, last season’s first crown came under Kompany because of results elsewhere.

When Bayer Leverkusen’s draw with Freiburg was enough to give Bayern the title last season, Kompany and his players followed the result on a television in a Munich restaurant.

In this restaurant, the players shone a cockatoo statue which was later taken by one of Bayern’s players. A week later, the statue was at the center of Bayern’s title celebrations.

“I’m not saying who it was,” Kompany said during last season’s title win. “The story will come out some time.”

The infamous cockatoo statue also appeared on the pitch during Sunday’s title celebrations, alongside players including Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka.
