Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento: Newcastle trio could leave in summer transfer window | Soccer News

There is an expectation at Newcastle that Anthony Gordon is keen to leave this summer.

The England international has emerged as a top target for Bayern Munich, while Arsenal also interested in him.

Gordon is one of a number of big-name players who could leave Newcastle this summer, with English and European clubs remaining Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.

The winger has not told Newcastle he wants to leave this summer, but the 25-year-old could be on the move if the Magpies land a big offer. Liverpool almost signed Gordon in the summer of 2024, but it remains to be seen if they will revive their interest in him.

Asked if he had any discussions with Gordon about the transfer links, Eddie Howe said on Friday: “I discuss things with players all the time. I don’t necessarily discuss transfer speculation unless I feel there’s a point I have to.

“After speaking with Sandro (Tonali), the biggest thing I look for is the commitment to training because if I see that the player will perform. It will be the same with Anthony and every player.

“One thing I’m not going to do is play any player if I don’t feel they’re 100 per cent committed to the club and it’s future.

“I’m not talking about Anthony there, I’m talking across the board.”

Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position over Tonali, who is contracted until 2029 plus a one-year option, and Gordon, who is contracted until 2030.

In an ideal world, Newcastle would like to keep both Gordon and Tonali, but have made no secret of their need to “trade” this summer to allow for the rebuilding of the first-team squad.

Tonali has a list of suitswhile Manchester City interested in Livramento. The England full-back is Newcastle’s most pressing concern, with just two years left on his deal.

Neither player has officially asked to leave, but there is a general understanding that one, two or all three may fancy a new challenge this summer.

Gordon hasn’t moved to leave, and we’re told he’s practicing and playing in the usual professional manner.

Analysis: Real chance Gordon leaves

Sky Sports News’ North East Correspondent Keith Downie:

“After more than three seasons at Newcastle, there is a real chance Gordon could go this summer. The winger has turned himself into an England regular since working under Eddie Howe, and the prospect of no Champions League football is not a positive one for Newcastle to keep him after the summer.

“But Newcastle asked for a Premier League record fee when they sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer, and they would be looking for a big outlay again if clubs made official approaches for Gordon.

“How much is a big outlay? I’d say around double the £40m (+£5m) Newcastle paid for him in 2023. They’re in a strong negotiating position – he’s got four years left on his current deal.

“He is also the third leading scorer in the Champions League this season, and that has not gone unnoticed on the continent.

“I’m told Gordon is still conducting himself in a professional manner and keeping his head down for the last six games of the season.

“I think Newcastle fans can accept Gordon moving to Bayern Munich rather than any of their Premier League rivals.

“Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson recently told reporters that Newcastle may have to sell to buy big this summer, and Gordon is one of the club’s best assets.

“If Newcastle were to raise around £75m-£80m for Gordon, it would give them more freedom in the market and give Howe (or a new manager) welcome funds to spend.”
