The FBI contacted Mexican authorities and began a search. Nancy Guthrie And her kidnapper, TMZ has learned. And TMZ has a new ransom note.
According to law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, the FBI contacted Mexican federal law enforcement agencies and spread the word to several police agencies. We’re told there are no solid leads so far.
According to our sources, the FBI believes Nancy may have been taken across the border, but it is highly unlikely that this happened immediately after the kidnapping. Authorities checked Border Patrol cameras and other electronic devices and found nothing. That said, our sources say it’s possible Nancy was taken across the border at another time. Of course, there are ways to evade authorities when crossing the border.
TMZ received another ransom note. This is a very sophisticated request related to a cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. The email asks for an amount similar to $6 million. ransom lawsuit In the previous email we received, it was a few days after the kidnapping had occurred. The email graphically explains the consequences of not paying the ransom.
The new ransom demand email contains a different cryptocurrency account number than the original. We’ve forwarded the email to the FBI, but won’t be more specific.
One thing the FBI wants to make clear is that anyone trying to scam the Guthrie family by asking for a fake ransom is playing with fire. Because, as one source put it, “They’re going to be going to federal prison for a very long time.” For all we know, these are not empty promises.
A few other items… Law enforcement sources say the FBI has not received any leads from gun stores contacted. As we reported, the FBI compiled a list of people who had purchased the type of holster the kidnapper was wearing, presented it to several gun store owners in the Tucson area, and asked whether anyone with that name had purchased a gun in the past year. No luck.
We’re also told that an FBI team is working with Walmart and other retailers to find out who purchased some of the items the kidnapper was wearing. Again, no breakthroughs so far.
“We’re shaking the trees” to solve the case, one law enforcement source said.
