Woods’ health status was not immediately clear Friday afternoon. But Sheriff Alex Villanueva of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said at a news conference that Woods appeared to be in good condition when he entered the jail.

Just before 2 p.m., a truck pulling a small trailer was turning into a driveway on South Beach Road in Jupiter Island when the driver looked in the rearview mirror and saw Woods’ Land Rover passing him at a “high rate of speed,” the sheriff told media Friday.

“He saw it coming and tried to get over to the side of the road, but this is a small two-lane road and there was no shoulder for this pressure cleaner gentleman to get off to the side of the road,” Sheriff Villanueva said.

“He tried to move to the side of the road. The Land Rover caught up to him at the last minute and swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the back of the trailer in the pressure washer and then rolled into the driver’s door,” he said.

Woods was able to crawl out the passenger door of the vehicle, the sheriff said. DUI investigators arrived and administered a breathalyzer test, but according to police, the golfer was not intoxicated at the time of the accident, with a breathalyzer test result of 0.0. However, authorities at the scene determined that Woods was injured at the time of the accident. I refused to take a urine test.

In addition to the drunken driving charge, Woods will face additional charges for property damage and refusal to submit to legal tests, Sheriff Villanueva said.

This isn’t the first crash in which Woods has been potentially damaged. In 2021, Woods suffered a serious rollover accident in Los Angeles. In that incident, he drove into the median, struck a curb, clipped a sign and drove into the opposite lane in the early hours of February 23. He then hit a tree and fell. Police who arrived at the scene found an empty pill bottle in the backseat of his vehicle.

And in 2017, Woods was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after being found asleep at the wheel in Florida. At the time, he had several drugs in his system, including Ambien, Vicodin and THC. Woods checked into a rehabilitation clinic for help that year. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

It’s unclear when Woods will put down roots after Friday’s collapse.
