Major wins over the past year

The team currently handles over 100 chats every day and provides free advice to all members. Over the past 8 months, more than 100,000 members have been added per month, achieving a remarkable achievement of 850,000 members in just one year of launch. This massive number of downloads is unprecedented for a tax app, especially during a pandemic.

When asked about the secret to the team’s incredible success, Executive Director – Leesha Arya said, “We hire passionate people who believe in our dreams, and we ensure that our employees grow with us. Case in point, our Head of Marketing, Ritika Agrawal, will be promoted to Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). As a startup that believes in making the most impossible dreams come true, we reward your efforts with disproportionate growth..”

Coincidentally, the majority of JJ Tax App employees and senior management are women. The team relies on in-house marketing initiatives led by creative directors Ritika Agrawal and Bhavya Mittal.

Difficulties caused by COVID-19

The team received a commitment of INR 100 million from a Singapore-based company. However, the second wave of COVID-19 has caused delays and the funding is now expected in September 2021. These delays have resulted in cuts to the team’s marketing budget and the appointment of some tax experts has also had to be postponed.

Talking about the challenges the team faced, Chief Operating Officer – Rashi Bajpai said, “Last year, when the pandemic posed a challenge for us, we turned it into an opportunity, and we plan to do the same this year. We are already in discussions with Indian angel investors and VC funds to raise funding worth INR 50 million. The funds will be used to launch the app in multiple languages through marketing campaigns, expanding staff requirements and chatbot services. We certainly plan to come back stronger, and we appreciate the patience our team has shown during these challenging times.

New goal for the winning team

After taking the original idea of simplifying taxation, JJ Tax App plans to target paid memberships to increase revenue. After receiving an overwhelming response to the membership plan, the team has decided to reduce the cost of Silver membership from Rs. 799 to Rs. 499. This price includes the cost of IT report submission. The team believes this will help add more millennial members and expand its paid member base.

The initial success of the app led the team to launch a student app called JoJo Edtech, which will be a one-stop solution for teaching commerce, accounting, taxation and related subjects, complete with quizzes and chat options. Under the able guidance of CA J Jambukeswaran, Chief Advisor and Director, the team hopes to provide affordable education to those who need it most. At Jojo Edtech, you will take all subjects related to commerce from the school’s Standard 11 to CA/CPA courses. Apart from academics, the team plans to provide cartoons and short films to students to make learning easy and fun.

The team has had a successful time since launching the app last year, and they plan to continue that success this year by delivering on their ambitious plans. This team of young millennials has certainly made history in a very short period of time.
