“Dimitri loves taking pictures of the people around him, but for years the images have been disappearing from his sight.” the hidden face of the earth. “He knows that one day he will no longer be able to see. The film follows Dimitri through the streets of Paris, New York, and beyond. While he captures things, Alain’s film camera captures him. In the process, the director and the protagonist meet friends, lovers, and strangers.

“Dimitri has a unique way of capturing the world around him. In photography, he has found a language that allows him to turn his gaze to others. He enjoys taking pictures of friends, boys he meets and sometimes strangers,” Alain emphasizes in the director’s statement. “As he explains in the film, he feels comfortable hiding behind the camera. His role as a photographer distances him from his visual impairment.”

The filmmaker concludes: “His camera becomes an extension of his gaze. Bonds of friendship, desire and sometimes anger are formed. Dimitri’s gaze turns to a Black Lives Matter activist or a passing lover.”

And Alain explains where the title of his film comes from. “Throughout the film, our images reflect each other,” he says. “Our imaginations intersect, our sensibilities meet and sometimes collide. Dimitri invites us to turn to the hidden side of the Earth and see what we cannot see.”
