Q&A with SFC staff tomorrow

After the positive preliminary ruling in our case against Vizio, we met in Orange County with our lawyers for what is likely to be the last trial of 2025. At trial, the judge tended to conclude that a request for source code—pursuant to an offer under the GPLv2 or LGPLv2.1—is a contract obligating the seller to provide that code to the seller. The trial generated excellent press coverage, including from Tom Claburn of The Register and by Christine Hall in FOSS Force. The hearing is coming soon on January 12. We look forward to arguing that we (and all end users of copyrighted software) are third-party beneficiaries under the GPL and have contractual rights to complete and corresponding source code.
