India’s Department of Audit and Accounts celebrates Audit Week in Mumbai with 12 offices of the CAG audit community.

The Office of the Audit and Accounts Department of India (IAAD) celebrated its third Audit Diwas with a week-long series of events from November 16 to 22, 2023. Audit Diwas was marked by various activities such as blood donation camps, essay competitions, poster making and slogan writing, heritage walks, etc. IAAD staff participated in various activities and students from some colleges under the University of Mumbai participated in an essay competition detailing on the topic CAG’s role in nation-building by ensuring accountability, transparency and good governance.

The final day of Gratitude Week was celebrated at BKC’s Regional Capacity Building and Knowledge Institute on 22 November 2023. The event was celebrated by all HoDs, officers and around 600 employees of IA&AD. The HoDs were Shri Guljari Lal, Shri CM Sane, Shri Sandip Roy, Ms. Tanuja Mittal, Shri KP Yadaw, Shri Abdul Rauf, Ms. It consisted of Aastha Luthra and Shri Shailesh Jakhotiya. The event was marked by all HoDs lighting their lamps. This was followed by deliberations on the audit community’s professional excellence and commitment to public interest, as well as various cultural activities. Additionally, the winners of various events were also congratulated.


The audit community has made a solemn pledge to commit itself to accountability and good governance. While the auditing community reaffirmed the concept of auditors as promoters of good governance, it maintained that audits should not be viewed as fault-finding agencies. They have proven to be equal partners in implementing various schemes and projects by pointing out deficiencies and suggesting recommendations for corrective action by the government. For example, it is worth noting that the Treasury has taken our recommendations on performance reviews for gems and jewellery, making three amendments to three sections 10AA, 56(2)(vii b) and 142(2A) of the Income Tax Act.


The Hon’ble President of India inaugurated the Third Audit Diwas on 16 November 2023 at the Office of the CAG of India in New Delhi. Audit Diwas 2023 is being celebrated to celebrate the history and legacy of India’s premier auditing institutions. Subsequently, the 31st General Meeting of Accountants was held. The broad theme of the conference was ‘Driving Change in 2030: Empowering Action to Shape the Future’. Accordingly, the CAG audit community deliberated on two sub-topics – Staying abreast of SAI India’s strategic plan for the period 2023-30, SAI India’s digital growth and the way forward.
