Google Vertex AI Search updated with healthcare and life sciences capabilities

Google, owned by Alphabet, is expanding the capabilities of its Vertex AI Search platform in the healthcare and life sciences sectors. This update allows enterprises to efficiently find precise clinical information and inquire about patient records. Vertex AI Search, designed to create a Google Search-like experience within enterprise applications using foundation models, now includes features such as data connectors for third-party applications like Salesforce, JIRA, and Confluence. Other enhancements include multiturn search and grounding capabilities.

The recent announcement from Google regarding the general availability of Vertex AI, its cloud platform for machine learning, has stirred excitement in the tech community. With a desire for a comprehensive end-to-end story on ML workflows in Google Cloud, the anticipation is high. Despite the plethora of ML-related services and tools Google Cloud has offered over the years, Vertex AI aims to unify them into a seamless and integrated platform.

The new features target healthcare and life sciences industries, offering improved data interoperability by enabling searches across various data types, including FHIR formats, clinical notes, and electronic health records (EHRs). This is made possible by integrating with Google Cloud’s Healthcare API and Healthcare Data Engine, along with Google Health’s search and summarization capabilities from Care Studio.

The article also mentions the potential combination of Vertex AI Search with the Med-PaLM 2 large language model, which can simplify complex medical topics. The integrated capabilities aim to help enterprises make informed decisions more quickly. These features are currently in preview, with testing open to existing Google Cloud customers, and early adopters include Hackensack Meridian Health, Meditech, and Highmark Health.
