According to The Met, the 2026 theme is “Costume Art,” in conjunction with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring Costume Institute exhibition. The exhibition is said to “examine the centrality of the clothed body across time and cultures, juxtaposing clothing and works of art from the Museum’s extensive collection to create pairs that highlight the inextricable connection between clothing and the body.”

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will also serve as honorary chairs this year, and the gala host committee is co-chaired by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz and includes Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Rebecca Hall, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Chloe Male, Amy Mullins, Tshabalala Self, Amy Sherald, Sam Smith, Chase Sui Wonders, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, Aja Wilson, Iseult.
