“It feels really good to get one for the other night,” Miller told the broadcaster after the win, “was disappointed a few games ago, but to get ourselves back in that position feels good to get over the line.
“It’s always going to be there in the back of your mind until you actually win another game. I’ll take it.”
The chase dwindled to 15 needed off the last over and Shepherd conceded just two singles off the first two balls before Miller struck again with 13 needed off four balls. Miller then smashed the ball over mid-wicket and the decks before hitting the winning runs.
“Batting where I did, there was a lot of stopping and starting this game. It felt like you couldn’t get going, and then there were a lot of break-ins,” Miller said. “Mood was a bit mixed, but when I walked in there, Stubbo said to me, ‘Keep your intensity really high.’ For me it helped a lot, kicking me into a good frame of mind.
“First six balls (I faced), they bowled well, six yorkers for me and I couldn’t get going but said it came off in the last six balls.”
The match ended on the second last ball but the plan for DC was to finish an over earlier. RCB’s bowlers were accurate but there was a boundary each in the 18th and 19th overs when the asking rate was more than 12 per over. Miller and Stubbs also ensured there were no dots after the 17th over, meaning DC were one or two boundaries away from sealing the match.
“We tried to finish it in the second-to-last over but we needed 40 runs (41) in the last four overs, we always knew there was one, two sixes inside a six and back-to-back fours and the bowler is always under pressure from there,” Miller said. “I just tried to limit the dot balls, and when the boundary ball comes, you capitalize. It was trying to stay calm, keep communicating with the partner and take it deep as we go.
“It’s always good to finish games with Stubbo. He just said: ‘Thank you very much, you saved me there.’ He batted incredibly well, anchoring the innings throughout. He has a great technique and he is powerful. He was great there for us. If you come in when I did, you have to take the lead and try to be more on the aggressive side. But just, job well done.”
