Multan Sultans 186 for 3 (Farhan 68, Philippe 56, Amir 2-32) knock Rawalpindi 182 for 8 (Billings 56*, Ghulam 35, Faisal Akram 4-31) with seven wickets

Multan Sultans have comprehensively established their credentials as the early tournament favourites, and beyond a flawed Rawalpindi by seven wickets. Sahibzada FarhanThe purple stain shows no signs of abating, with the opener hitting his way to another match-winning knock, shooting 68 off 38 as his side cruised to the 182 set by Rawalpindiz with almost four overs to spare. He had with him Josh Philippe for capable company with the Australian entering his second half-century PSL 2026the pair’s 110-run partnership came from just 58 balls.

This tournament was friendly to chasing teams, so Rawalpindiz knew they were up against it. With Naseem Shah ruled out, they needed a big effort from Mohammad Amir, one they looked to get when he trapped Steve Smith in his first over. However, the regular Rawalpindiz breakthroughs that had been sniffed about never materialized as Farhan and Philippe began to take charge.

That dominance was rubber stamped when Farhan decided to take the attack on Amir himself and hit two sixes off the first two balls of his next over. This helped Sultans sign off the Powerplay by scoring 58, an advantage they pressed home against Rawalpindiz’s thin bowling attack. Philippe bowled Mohammad Amir Khan for 16 in the eighth over before the pair plundered four sixes off Rishad Hossain in an over that almost made the match safe at the halfway mark.

From there it was a Rawalpindiz march. A decent yorker from Amir Khan removed Farhan while Mohammad Amir sent back Philippe, but both scored whirlwind half-centuries, and now the asking rate was barely more than a run a ball. Shan Masood and Ashton Turner made light work of it.

Sultans were initially put in this position of relative comfort by an excellent bowling performance, spearheaded by the left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram. His four wickets during a period in which his variations plagued Rawalpindiz ripped the heart out of the innings, with Sultans pouncing when Rawalpindiz threatened to put together a partnership. Cameos from Kamran Ghulam and Abdullah Fazal respectively helped the batsmen to start, but they were stymied by Akram’s introduction as the innings stalled.

In 27 balls between the eighth and 12th overs, Rawalpindiz scored just 28, losing three big wickets in the process, including a clever top-spinner who accounted for Daryl Mitchell. Dian Forrester smashed Mohammad Nawaz for three consecutive sixes to inject some impetus into the innings, but there were not enough men to give him company.

Towards the end Sam Billingswho started sluggishly started to catch up and ensured his side had something to bowl for. He started the attack expertly, taking down Mohammad Wasim and Peter Siddle and scoring an unbeaten 56 off 34 as his side hit 43 off the last four. However, it was a pitch that had few demons in it, and any total below 200 was always going to be a struggle. Against a team in Multan Sultans’ form this was especially true, with a clinic from Farhan and Philippe emphasizing the point.
